1986 Malaysian general election

General elections were held in Malaysia on 2 and 3 August 1986.[1] People voted in all 177 parliamentary constituencies, each choosing one Member of Parliament for the Dewan Rakyat, the main house of Parliament. State elections were also held in 351 constituencies in 11 of the 13 states. The UMNO-led Barisan Nasional won 148 out of 173 seats. After winning the election, Mahathir Mohamad continued to serve as Prime Minister.
