American occupation zone

zone of American occupation in postwar Germany

The American Zone of Occupation was the southern part of Allied Occupied Germany after the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II in 1945.

Germany was occupied by the Soviets, the French, the Americans, and the British. Each had an occupation zone. The American Zone of Occupation's first military governor was Dwight Eisenhower, later the President of the United States of America. It remained as an occupied territory from 1945 until 1949. During the aftermath of Germany’s defeat there was some sabotage and murder by the Nazi Operation Werwolf.
