It is one of the oldest universities in Hong Kong, the second oldest after the University of Hong Kong. The motto of the university is "博文約禮", which in Chinese means "to expand the intellectual horizon and keep within the bounds of decency." Teaching at the university is carried out in Chinese and English. According to the QS ranking of the best universities in the world, in 2016 the University ranks 44th in the world and 3rd in Hong Kong.[3]
