Object history
Deutsch: Die Herren von Rötteln, die seit Anfang des 12. Jahrhunderts Schopfheim besaßen, erhoben den Ort um 1250 zur Stadt. Uber die Markgrafen von Hachberg-Sausenberg kam die Stadt 1503 an die Markgrafen von Baden. Am 15. Juli 1529 verlieh Markgraf Ernst von Baden-Durlach der Stadt ein Siegel, das den bis heute gebräuchlichen Wappenschild zeigt. Nur einige Siegel des 19. Jahrhunderts enthielten allein das badische Wappen. Der Schrägbalken ist das Wappen des Stadtherrn, der Erzengel Michael ist der Patron der Schopfheimer Pfarrkirche. Einige der zwischen 1971 und 1975 eingemeindeten sieben Stadtteile hatten lange Jahrhunderte zum Kirchspiel St. Michael gehört. Die Tingierung des hinteren Feldes wurde 1964 festgelegt.
