Jan van Eyck

Flemish painter (c.1390–1441)

Jan van Eyck or Johannes de Eyck (IPA: [jɑn vɑn ɛik]) (before c. 1395 – before 9 July 1441) was an early Dutch painter active in Bruges. He is thought to be one of the best Northern European painters of the 15th century. He was interested in art since he was a child and was encouraged in this career by his older brother, Hubert.
