Karla Sofía Gascón
Karla Sofía Gascón (born 31 March 1972) is a Spanish actress. She is known for playing the main character in the musical crime movie Emilia Pérez (2024). For this role, she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award, becoming the first transgender woman nominated for a Golden Globe.[1] She played Lourdes Buendía in the teen drama series Rebelde (2022).[2]

She came out as trans woman in 2016,[3][4] and in 2018, she began her gender transition.[5]
Life
changeKarla Sofía Gascón was born 31 March 1972 in Alcobendas, Spain.[6] She began her career after earning an acting degree from the ECAM.[7]
She appeared in Spanish daily soap opera El súper playing a flight attendant. Early roles also included movie appearances in Se buscan fulmontis (1999), Me da igual (2000), Box 507 (2002), and Say I Do (2004).[8][9]
Gascón is married to Marisa Gutiérrez, whom she met at the age of 19 at a nightclub in her hometown. Together they have a daughter, born in 2011.[10][11]
In October 2024, Gascón became a Knight of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in France.[12]
