Lieutenant governor (United States)

sub-national title in the United States

The Lieutenant Governor is an official in state governments of 45 out of 50 of the United States. In most cases, the lieutenant governor is the highest officer of state after the governor. In the event the governor dies or resigns, the lieutenant governor would replace them. Some people believe that lieutenant governors have no power.[1]
