Newark is a city in Alameda County, California, United States. It was created as a city in September 1955. Newark is an enclave, surrounded by the city of Fremont, California. The three cities of Newark, Fremont, and Union City make up the "Tri-City" area. Its population was 47,529 in 2020.[1]

The 2020 United States Census[1] reported that Newark had 47,529 people. There was 3,063.2 people per square mile (1,182.7/km²). Newark has 10,762 (22.6%) Whites, 1,584 (3.3%) Black, 560 (1.2%) Native Americans, 19,801 (41.7%) Asians, 693 (1.5%) Pacific Islanders, 8,317 (17.5%) from other races, and 5,812 (12.2%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 14,360 persons (30.2%).

The Census reported that 47,240 people (99.4% of the population) lived in households.

There were 14,946 households, out of which 5,779 (38.7%) had children under the age of 18 living in them. 2,109 households (14.1%) were made up of individuals and 871 (5.8%) had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.32. There were 11,705 families (78.3% of all households); the average family size was 3.56.
