Rui Rio

Portuguese politician of the 3rd republic

Rui Fernando da Silva Rio GCIH (born 6 August 1957) is a Portuguese politician.[1] He was the Mayor of Porto.

On 13 January 2018, he was elected President of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) with 54% of the votes, becoming the Leader of the Opposition.

In the 2022 legislative elections, the Social Democrats lost 3 seats, taking them to 76 seats in the Assembly. In the aftermath of the election, Rio resigned from the party's leadership.[2]
