Shahid Khaqan Abbasi (Urdu/Punjabi: شاہد خاقان عباسی; born 27 December 1958) is a Pakistani politician who was the Prime Minister of Pakistan, from August 1, 2017 to May 31, 2018. He is a member of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N).[1]

Abbasi served as the Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources in the third Sharif ministry from 2013 to 2017, and briefly held the cabinet portfolio of Minister for Commerce in the Gillani ministry in 2008.

On 1 August 2017, Abbasi was elected Prime Minister of Pakistan after the resignation of outgoing Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif after Panama Papers case decision.[2][3]
