The movie took in over $1 billion overall. The film was followed in 2013 by The Desolation of Smaug and in 2014 by The Battle of the Five Armies.

The film stars Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Lee Pace, Adam Brown, and other casts. Luke Evans, Stephen Fry and Orlando Bloom does not appear in the first film.

Bilbo Baggins gets a request from Gandalf to go on a journey. Later that night, a group of dwarves visited Bilbo's house.
