Welcome back

change

Title says it all :) - I am still working on World History when I have the time. Though I am not as active as beforehand, more real-life stuff happening. --Eptalon 14:27, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

It's good to have you back! :)Oysterguitarist 14:30, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks to both of you! It's really nice to be editing again. I saw all the work you've done on World History, Eptalon. You're doing an awesome job! :-) --Isis§(talk) 14:36, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks :) --Yegoyan 17:26, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Hey, your back! --§ Snake311 (T + C) 23:35, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

Awww...that's so nice. Hopefully, I won't have any disappearances for a long while. :P --Isis§(talk) 22:24, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Taxoboxes

change

The Damson taxobox was copied 1:1 from EnWP. All I might have left out is an opening or closing brace at the beginning or at the end. --Eptalon 20:31, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

The taxobox was missing the {{{color}}} attribute. It gets all screwy without it. -- Creol(talk) 20:36, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

World History

change

Hello, I fear I am clinging to something that will never be. Nevertheless, I think World History needs you. Still outstanding there:

  • Cultures of Mesopotamia: Sumeria, Assyria, ... (in Ancient History)
  • Ancient Egypt (also in Ancient History); perhaps Kush/Meroe if you know/find info on them
  • Inca, and Aztec (in Middle Ages)
  • Can you think of any others?

I fear once this article is done, it will be very big.

Any thoughts? --Eptalon 22:17, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

That's fine. I also have a real life to attend to, besides Simple, though I see it take most of my free time. From what I recall (not sure), there is relatively little known about Meroe/Kush, about Mesopotamia, I recall that until some point in time, kings reigned for like 800-1200 years... - Anyway, have fun expanding. ;) --Eptalon 22:46, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

The idea behind the article, in my opinion is to give a short overview of the each of the civilisations, and a link to the main article about it, where this civilisation can be elaborated. As to size: I think the section on Ancient Greece is definitely too short, the one on the Mayas is probably too long. I don't know, really. If we look at what we have now, and what is still missing, I think we will end up with 70-80kb in size, once we are done. Or to look at it visually, add the section on Ancient Rome, about 5 times (for the 5 missing civs). As you say it is indeed a broad subject. We should therefore keep in mind that shorter is probably better. As the longer variant, try to visualize 5x the Maya section in that article. So, while doing the extension, create the detailed article about the civ early on, and put the detailed account there. --Eptalon 23:16, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Hello. :) I don't understand why you gave a test warning here. I would have left a note on the ip's talk page like you did explaining British/American spelling, but it wasn't really a test edit. --Isis§(talk) 22:32, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

True I have rewritten this as a not rather than a warning. -- Barliner  talk  22:38, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Yeah I did but I got rid of it, I might just use gmail or something if I want to. Oysterguitarist 23:20, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Hey, Isis. I am currently running at WP:RFA and would like you to vote. If you could do so ASAP, that would be appreciated so, if there is a clear consensus against I can withdraw. -- Spiderpig0001 Does whatever a spiderpig does! 02:54, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Last!, a new user. Last! 02:50, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Gwib, a returing user! Great to see you again :)
Gwib-(talk)- 20:24, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
I'll stay for about 3 or 4 weeks whilst I'm on holiday, then I'll be off again till my next break. What about you? Are you finally on a path which leaves you time for all us geeks on simple? :)
Gwib-(talk)- 20:32, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
FYI Gwib, I am not a geek. While I have never revealed this before, i am emo instead. --§ Snake311 (T + C) 21:38, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
You never told us this before? What other secrets have you kept hidden all this time? --Isis§(talk) 22:08, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

I went through a brief emo stage, but then I turned back for a girl :) How corny is that?
But anyway, what happened to Archer7 or Phaedriel? I don't think they're active anymore which is a shame...
Gwib-(talk)- 22:21, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
ps. Check out my new profile picture!

That was the conversation I've heard (or read...) this month. I think Archer7 is still semi-active. maybe. But Phaedriel hasn't been here since around September. I like your picture. ha :)
A girl is actually a pretty sweet reason to not be emo anymore. I think it's nice. :) I can't really imagine you being emo, anyway. --Isis§(talk) 22:40, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
I have a picture actually, I'll drag it up from deep within my computer if you want? And is it me or are ALL the edit counters down?
Gwib-(talk)- 22:44, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
That would be very interesting...seeing you...emo...:P I don't know about the edit counters. I never check them. ever. Not since my RfA. --Isis§(talk) 23:31, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
The edit counters (Interiot's) is up. Just checked both Barliner and you on it. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 23:34, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

[[Image:Emo_gwib.jpg|thumb|150px|The red eyes are just the camera glare :p]] Must just be my computer then...
Enjoy the me emo picture, I am NOT LIKE THAT ANYMORE.
Gwib-(talk)- 23:37, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Well that is different. The red eyes are kind of creepy :P I'm glad you're not like that anymore...--Isis§(talk) 00:09, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
For me, I have very long black hair up to my lower shoulders and almost-black eyes. Also I wear dark clothes. But I don't look like [an emo] Gwib. Nor do I wear lip sticks. Bascially, my hair is like from the rock band Escape the Fate. Nowdays My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, and Panic! At the Disco cut their hair somewhat shorter than before. --§ Snake311 (T + C) 04:47, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Also I have been emo since November '06 after Saw III and MCR's new album, the Black Parade. Unfortunately, I live in an area where there isn't a lot of emo people or people who have long hair. In fact, I'm the only guy who has long hair except for science class. I also have a few pictures of me being emo, but I rather not post it up. Also they are old from last summer. --§ Snake311 (T + C) 04:56, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

I didn't copy singers in bands like MCR, that isn't emo. That's just following a fashion. The emo came from inside me, I felt an urge, I didn't do it like 90% of the emos today who just copy Fall Out Boy and other bands, that's kinda sad.
Gwib-(talk)- 08:35, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

What's wrong with copying My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy? :P --Isis§(talk) 15:21, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Being emo isn't meant to be a fashion statement, it's just something you are.
Gwib-(talk)- 15:41, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Actually, according to this diff, it's "only a type of music" lol. But yeah, it is just something you are. But today it usually is a fashion statement. ha...I'm actually sorta semi-emo as far as the "fashion statement" goes. :P --Isis§(talk) 16:51, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
:O you're EMO?? I would never have guessed! Your signature is all happy and your userpage is written in blue and purple!
Gwib-(talk)- 17:08, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
I think there's a lot you wouldn't guess about me. ;) Happy signature? I beg to differ. emo Isistalk 18:36, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
What I think about emo is that you don't have to be depressed or anything to be emo. I think that you are emo if you listen or like emo music and/or wear dark clothes with your hair combed to the side. --§ Snake311 (T + C) 20:19, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
That's very stereotypical emo-ness. Actually, didn't the word first mean people that cut themselves? I don't know, it's just something I heard.
lol. My black eye shadow is making me cry. See the irony? :P --Isis§(talk) 21:17, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
I've also heard somewhere that emo means people who cut themselves, what elmo does. Anyhow, what irony? --§ Snake311 (T + C) 06:37, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
hehe...I was just joking. --Isis§(talk) 20:58, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Here is my hello as well. I am a 3 week old user who has helped out tremendously on this here Simple English Wikipedia, contributing over 3,800 edits in 3 weeks time. I hope we can be friends. Can we? -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 22:11, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Stubbing years

change

You don't need to look before the year 1,000 when stubbing the years because I've already stubbed every year between 0 and 1000 with the stub template if they needed it. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 22:08, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Wow. Alright. I won't. :) --Isis§(talk) 22:09, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Still check them for yearnav though. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 22:10, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Year nav template

change

The year nav template doesn't work for years below 100, as per Creol's comment. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 20:20, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

Where is Creol's comment? Can you possibly give a link or something...? Because I don't see how they don't work. --Isis§(talk) 20:22, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, it's either on Creol's talkpage or my talk page. Lemme go hunt for it. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 20:22, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
Here is the comment copied directly from Creol's talkpage:
Why did you revert my changes to those pages? Razorflame (contributions) Talk 18:31, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Because you tagged them with an invalid template. Year nav does not work under year 101. It is clearly stated on the templates page. It yeilds a "0th Century" and if low enough starts to use the "-10s" instead of using BC. -- Creol(talk) 18:34, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
I'm sorry about that. I did not read the template page before I used it. Thank you for pointing out that information though. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 18:35, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Well, I saw the "0th century" but what else is supposed to be used? Old fashioned made-by-hand tale? Well, guess I'll start at 100. --Isis§(talk) 20:26, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
Actually, the yearbox template works just fine. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 20:27, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
Oh, okay. I've never used that one. Could be fun trying a new template. --Isis§(talk) 20:29, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
I'm not trying to be a insolent person here; I was just pointing out a fact that Creol pointed out to me. I've already undone the edits you made to the pages. Razorflame (contributions) Talk 20:30, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
  • That's fine. Thanks for pointing it out. :) And for undoing my edits and saving me lots of work. :P --Isis§(talk) 20:32, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
Not a problem! Razorflame (contributions) Talk 20:34, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
  • It is a bit more complicated to use than the year nav template, but at least it gets the correct information onto a page! Razorflame (contributions) Talk 20:41, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

Another note on year pages

change

Hey there Isis! Tygrrr posted a comment a while page (I'll dig it up soon) about the category part of year pages. Tygrrr likes pages to have the category listed as:

Category:(year page)'''|''' (space) Like this: Category:1999|

If you edit a page that doesn't have it like this, please fix it.

Thanks, Razorflame (contributions) Talk 21:43, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

Alright. :) --Isis§(talk) 21:44, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
  • In case you are wondering, here is a direct copypaste of the conversion between both me and Tygrrr:

This is a small point, really, but when you create year pages, could you please place them in categories in this manner:

  • For example, the category on page 1266 should be written as [[Category:1266| ]]

This just keeps things clean and follows the standard I have set up for a large number of year pages and their categories. Thank you. · Tygrrr... 17:59, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Sure, will do in the future. -Razorflame (contributions) Talk 19:41, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

I just changed a bit. I don't think the new chapters are ok now, but they show where improvement has to take place and lead to articles with some more information as long as this is not yet included in the main article. --Cethegus (talk) 14:43, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes, the new sections are certainly an improvement. I think the sections on Ancient Egypt and China are a great start, but probably need to be a bit longer. I could work on that, Ancient Egypt especially, after I finish WWI and WWII, if it would help. I don't want to monopolize this thing. --Isis(talk) 18:31, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
The article is about World History. WWI is much too long now. We'll have quite a job to get this to proportion again. --Cethegus (talk) 17:39, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
Ha. I went into way too much detail. I think only the major (and I mean major) parts of WWI should be kept...unfortunately, I have no idea where to start. --Isis(talk) 17:43, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
I hope my changes of the article are not against your plans. I would not have started with such a difficult project, if I had not known that you work on it as well. That you have made no changes there for some days makes me think something what I did was not ok with you. --Cethegus (talk) 07:15, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
Please note my changes and my explanation on the talk page. I am especially interested if you could accept a change of name for the period of Middle Ages ( does not know such a chapter). --Cethegus (talk) 05:11, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
"The Epic of Gilgamesh, was written during this time" is a bit misleading, as only comparitively short passages were created in Sumerian times. The version we know today is some centuries younger. - I used the term "go back" to express this, because something like the oldest version of one of the oldest works of poetry sounds somewhat clumsy. Have you got a better solution? --Cethegus (talk) 20:14, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for voting in my RfA, which ended unsuccessfully with 59% support. I found this Request for adminship to be extremely helpful in learning what I need to work on now and I appreciate your vote in my RfA, as every vote that was posted helped me learn a little bit more about myself and the work I do here on the Simple English Wikipedia.
