In 2019 Ford announced that the company plans to make a small Pickup Truck that uses the same platform of the Ford Focus.[6] in 2020 a tailgate photo was leaked to the press revealing that the Pickup Truck would use the name Maverick that was used on a compact car made by Ford from 1970 to 1979.[7]

the production began on September 2021.[8] and went on sale in late 2021 as a 2022 model.[9] but in 2022 Ford suspended the orders and said it intended to resume the orders from 2023 model year.[10] The Maverick has a 2.0 turbo Ecoboost Gasoline engine and a Gasoline hybrid version that has a 2.5 liter Gasoline engine combined with a 88 Kw (118 hp) electric motor the Pickup Truck has a 8-speed automatic transmission (turbo version only) and the hybrid version has a Ford Hf45 transmission it was facelifted in 2024 as a 2025 model.[11]
