Kagoshima (鹿児島市, Kagoshima-shi) is a Japanese city in Kagoshima Prefecture on the island of Kyushu.[1] It is the capital city of the prefecture.[2]

Kagoshima is at the southwestern tip of Kyūshū.[2]

It has been recognized as a core city since 1996.[3]

History

Kagoshima was the center of Satsuma Province[4] and the land of the Shimazu clan.[2]
