She first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #141 in 1979 as part of the Days of Future Past storyline, which depicts a dystopian future where mutants are hunted by Sentinels. Throughout her publication history, she has also been referred to by the monikers Marvel Girl, Phoenix, Prestige, and Mother Askani (later simply Askani).
