Hi

Your work on templates is very good. Keep up the good work! PiRSquared17 19:48, 30 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Great Work

Just wanted to say its great to see someone else here working on hockey. I know I changed some of your stuff but none of that was personal, its just what happens on a wiki. Seeing someone else interested in hockey on here has gotten me working on it more again. I used to be the only one on here doing much to do with hockey so its nice to see. Is your team still in the playoffs? -DJSasso (talk) 15:37, 3 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

DJSasso, No problem. I worked too late into the night last night, and did not realize you has split some of the seasons into their own article. I am in the process of undoing my damage :-\ --The Three Headed Knight (talk) 16:14, 3 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
No worries, I mostly only split them because in some cases they overwhelm the page. And since there are so few people that edit hockey here they can get out of date fast, by making them their own pages they can't really be out of date (once the season is done anyways). -DJSasso (talk) 16:24, 3 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

IRC cloak

Hi. I see that you applied for a wikipedia/ cloak. However, we cannot give you a cloak without a registered nickname. So, you'd have to register your nick, TheKnight, and send a memo to wmfgc, confirming that you indeed want a cloak. Also, since your account is turning 3 months of age in 4 days, we won't be able to set a cloak before then. Thanks --Dungodung (talk) 21:19, 5 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I tried to send the meno to wmfgc, but received an error stating I was not logged on. I was going to wait a week, and try again. I am new to IRC. Is there someplace I need to register my nick first? Thanks.--The Three Headed Knight (talk) 21:39, 5 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
You have to register on IRC itself. Type /msg nickserv help register on IRC to get help regarding registering. After you have successfully registered your nick, you can send memos. --Dungodung (talk) 16:56, 7 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ah, thank you. I have now registered my nick. I will request the cloak in a couple of days.--The Three Headed Knight (talk) 18:40, 7 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

You are quite welcome. I love boring templates  . I just finished the bulk of my changes. I woke up early, and realized I had failed to build the flag template for our friends in the great white north and could not get back to sleep!
I have not received any comments about my proposed change to the {{tl:flagicon}} template. Does that mean that everyone is in agreement, or did I overwhelm them with too much information?--The Three Headed Knight (talk) 12:35, 15 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Probably, but some (like me) simply might not be as clever as you in templates, and so don't really understand what you are talking about, and therefore forbear from commenting. ;) Anyway, thanks again for your great work, and please tell me if you ever need the flood flag or anything else I can help with! :) And by the way, you don't have to go to the trouble of putting a talkback on my page next time, as I've had your talk page watchlisted (I am a bit of a talk page stalker). Cordially, —Clementina talk 01:38, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Griffinofwales commented on my post, so now I know that as least two people have read it! :-) The flag templates are quite convoluted, and it cost this olde knight many hours and more than a few pages to understand how they work. Me thinks Rube Goldberg designed them. (oh no - another red-link  )--The Three Headed Knight (talk) 13:00, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Many read it, as Clementina said, most of us a not template editors, too complex. If you think it will work and make things better and easier, then do it. We can always change it back. --Peterdownunder (talk) 13:36, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I have tested it against dozens of pages. I exported every page linked to the templates, search the output for the calls, and checked everyone of them. My only concern is templates that pass parameters to {{flagicon}} in non-standard format. I have checked out a bunch of them, and they all look good. Griffinofwales suggested waiting five days before implementing. I will make an announcement on Wikipedia:Simple talk the day before the change over. BTW, I hope you are not still being held in the Eureka Stockade  --The Three Headed Knight (talk) 13:56, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yeah its always good to leave a discussion open 5-7 days since people edit at different times. But it looks pretty good to me. I usually get frustrated with flagicons and end up just creating redirects at commons to fix them. ;) -DJSasso (talk) 16:28, 16 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Article size

Hi, when I wrote my first article I see the show preview and I see the phrase:

This page is 32 kilobytes long; some browsers may have problems editing pages approaching or longer than 32kb. Please consider breaking the page into smaller sections

Why 32 KB? Nataly8 (talk) 15:39, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Nataly8, that message is generated on large article to warn the editor. That is kind of an old limit. In the bad old days, some browsers could not handle large web pages. As I understand it, 32K was picked as a threshold for a large article. As long as you are not much over 32K, it should not be a problem.
I assume you are talking about List of Avatar: The Last Airbender episodes. If the article expands, say more books are added, they you may want to consider breaking the article into two or more articles. I see a problem with the the article. You use Avatar Wiki as a source a number of times. That may not be a valid source.
One more thing. When you leave a message for someone on their talk page, you should start a new section if the message is a new topic. If you click the + sign tab it will automatically create a new section.--The Three Headed Knight (talk) 16:04, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

What about the sources: I saw this show, and I find this Avatar Wikia. I found articles for all the episodes, so I make them references. Nataly8 (talk) 16:34, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

As for watching the show, that certainly helps you in terms of knowing about the subject, but you cannot write you own review. That would be a violation of No original research (NOR). As for the Avatar Wikia, I only took a quick look, but I don't know where they got their information because they have not credit anyone or listed any references (that I could find). It may be original research, they may have copied it from another, possibly copyright website. Verifiability states that "sources should be unimpeachable". I am just pointing out that Avatar Wikia may not meet that standard. --The Three Headed Knight (talk) 17:02, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

I don't know how they work. Thanks for the help. Nataly8 (talk) 17:07, 7 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

See the List of Avatar: The Last Airbender episodes. I wish I solve the problem with the sources. Nataly8 (talk) 14:56, 8 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sites such as tvguide, amazon should generally be considered reliable. imdb can provide a lot of information and a good starting point, but it is not always considered reliable, because it contains user contributed data, and does not have the editorial review that a source like tv guide would have.--The Three Headed Knight (talk) 15:08, 8 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sir? If you know my age... What about the article? It need some simplification, but I didn't find anything. Nataly8 (talk) 15:00, 17 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

I used sir as a sign of respect, not referring to a persons age. I did assume you are a male, which I should not have. As to Aang, I have not seen the show. I looked over the article. Simplification will take a bit of work. I always struggle to find the balance of simple and complete.
Something you could work on is simplifying the sentence structure. For example, the article has

"The plot they described relates with the first and second episodes of the series, where the "water people" (Katara and Sokka) find the "air guy" (Aang) while "trapped in a snowy wasteland" (the Southern Water Tribe) with "some fire people [that] are pressing down on them" (Fire Navy and Zuko)."

This sentence is very complicated. Maybe this could become something like

The plot they talk about is the first two episodes of the series. There are Katara and Sokka, who are the "water people". They find Aang, who is the "air guy". Aang is "trapped in a snowy wasteland", the Southern Water Tribe. There are "some fire people [that] are pressing down on them". These people are Fire Navy and Zuko.

But the above leaves me with some questions. Is the Southern Water Tribe the snowy wasteland, or do they live there? I am not sure how the fire people are pressing down. That could be explained a little after the quote.--The Three Headed Knight (talk) 15:30, 17 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Aang and Appa, his flying bison, were frozen in an iceberg for 100 years (too many :)) and Sokka and Katara free them. They live in a near village of South Pole, a little village withe 10-20 people. Nataly8 (talk) 15:47, 17 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi

Hi, thanks for all the hard work you've been doing but just a little pointer, you don't need to add an internal link if the same link is found within the same paragraph or table, linking to it once in such an instance is generally sufficient. I try not to in paragraphs. For the race results table, such as Formula One, I usually do. It seems to me to look better. Plus, with the larger tables, a desired link could be scrolled off the screen by the time someone wants to click on it. I am open to suggestions.--The Three Headed Knight (talk) 15:18, 6 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

New Articles and Essays

Hi, thanks for telling me about citing the English Wikipedia. I'll keep that in mind it makes sense, since Wikipedia now works under the Creative Commons, and we don't have the revision history here. I've only got a couple more articles I want to add now. I'm trying get my to-do list done section-by-section, and since the first SEW article I used was developing countries, economic development is first on my to-do list. Out of curiosity, if I request importer privileges in two months, (or whenever I get to the next part of my to-do list), will it cite the English Wikipedia automatically?

Also, I will consider making an essay. I'd assumed there was one already actually, I just didn't bother to look for it. But I noticed that BE_1500 includes a lot of words my students certainly don't know, and excluding ones they do. I've also noticed that it entirely excludes phrasal verbs, despite the fact that my students know quite a lot of them. Is there by any chance a list of simple phrasal verbs already?
Thanks and regards, --Quintucket (talk) 06:05, 18 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

I could not find a list of phrasal verbs. There was a list of verbs, but it was deleted. I found several discussions, such asWriting Simple English: Monosyllablism? and Phrasal verbs. The consensus seems to be to avoid them. And yes, Import will cite enwp (English Wikipedia). Cheers--The Three Headed Knight (talk) 15:09, 18 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
Interesting discussions, I definitely disagree that phrasal verbs (or even idioms) should always be avoided, but there's a number of factors to consider. So yes, I'll definitely try to write something on that, though right now I'm trying to get a couple of groups of articles sorted out. But yeah, any rate, thanks again. --Quintucket (talk) 15:24, 18 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
