Hello! Thank you for creating Category:Thrash metal songs. However, we normally need at least three pages in a category before it is created. Because categories are a way to group together similar articles, there is no need to create a new category for just one or two articles. If you think there might be more pages to add to the new category, please add them now. Thank you. MathXplore (talk) 14:37, 14 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add or change content, as you did to Guns N' Roses, without verifying it by citing a reliable source. The content has been removed from the page for now. Please read the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and make sure to cite reliable sources if you re-add the information. Thank you. –Davey2010Talk 01:28, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Of course, I can source the genres. It doesn't seem hard rock or heavy metal are sourced either, likely because they were taken from the standard Wikipedia page, but the "musical style" section that sourced them was not. This is further supported by the fact there's a message about an agreement on genres on the talk page, yet no talk page exists, but yeah, I'll reinstate the edits but with source. Retired / New account

change

I've just seen your retired message, FYI in case you aren't aware you cannot create a new account and edit the English Wikipedia as it'll be seen as evading your block,

The English Wikipedia don't get sock-blocks wrong but either way you would need to appeal there and if appealing doesn't work then you should imho accept it, live with it, and move on.

I would strongly advise against creating a new account as A) you'll only be making it 10 times worse for yourself and B) it will catch up with you eventually one way or another. (I would assume creating an account solely for the purpose of editing everywhere except EN is still strictly speaking not allowed so I would advise against doing that too)

Of course it's entirely up to you what you do but just know no matter how hard you try - EN aren't stupid and they have tools that can easily detect things but as I say it's up to you, Happy editing, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 21:36, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your input. I've already made a new account, but haven't done anything with it yet, and likely won't based on what you said. It may just be time for me to hang up the towel on this whole Wikipedia thing. My time on Simple English Wiki has been great. Can't say the same for Wikipedia proper, but regardless, I'm not the one in charge. All my edits were in good faith, but people can take things a lot of ways on the internet, and it's clear by now that Wikimedia is not interested in my continued work, so I guess this is goodbye.

My short time on here has been fun, but like you said, it may be time to move on. It seems there was a proposed policy some years back to not judge users based on the actions on English Wikipedia, but it never materialized it would seem. Despite this, it still seems that banned users from Wikipedia proper are usually welcomed onto the Simple English Wiki, but its still not necessarily a good look. No matter how good my edits here may be, the past isn't going anywhere, so really, it's not a good idea to continue on. Thanks for all, and happy editing! Hi, No worries, I'll be honest with you I've never been in your situation so I can't comment but I know If I were you right now I'd probably be feeling shit too, FWIW there's a lot more to Wikipedia than EN and there are so many places you can still help out at (here, Commons, WikiData, WikiVoyage),
Unfortunately you are right your past will follow you everywhere and people will judge you based on that block but if you were to appeal and for instance own your mistakes and tell them what you wont do going forward you may be unblocked or failing that just continue editing elsewhere for a year or 2 and then reappeal showing you've done good at the various Wikipedias (or if you're not DB again reappeal via email detailing why),
You can't change the past but you can change the future and only you can put things right Carnivore82, may take time but only you can change your future!, Happy editing and best wishes for whatever you choose to do, Thank you for your edits here and I hope you stay and continue editing here, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 23:25, 28 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
"The English Wikipedia don't get sock-blocks wrong." Yeah, so it's about time I owe up to that. I am the blocked user, Diskyboy. I'm a dirty sockpuppeter. I was a fool in my early days of Wikipedia editing. I meant well but never bothered to read anything or the rules and got involved in my fair share of edit warring. Then in a few instances, I had forgotten to sign in and not wanting to owe up to my mistakes, I tried to pretend that me using the IP address was a different person. It didn't go well. So okay, my block wasn't justified per se, but it was easily preventable if I had just taken responsibility, but at the same time, no one liked me for my reckless editing, so I didn't feel theer was a chance of me being forgiven.
A few weeks later, I come back under a new name. My edits have improved in quality by then, but they were all reversed, so I abandoned that account and created a new one and that repeated about four times. I was never caught. That was until I picked a fight with a much respected editor over the removal of a source genre. To the day, the reversal of the edit still bothers me. The original edit was actually done under my old accounts, and merely added a source to an existing genre. Admins soon got involved and all my accounts were blocked, and my IP address, and that stung hard. The thing is, while I was a rulebreaker and a liar, my edits had improved so much, and by this point, I was productive with my edits and adding good info to the site, but my past came back to haunt me.
Finally now, with this account. I had created it just to edit on Simple English Wikipedia, but accidently signed into Wikipedia proper with it one day and saw I wasn't blocked. That got the worst of me and encouraged me to start editing once again. By this point in time, all my edits were as productive as they got, but I got caught in a few fights, which to be fair, weren't my caught, but while in them, I lied about my past and said Diskyboy wasn't me. That got the worst of me once again...
This is all partially my fault, but at the same time, I feel the admins on Wikipedia just aren't welcoming at all, and in general, there's a stigmata against new users. No one ever bothers to tell you what it's right, they just push you around. Is this an excuse to break site policy and lie? Absolutely not, and thus, it makes sense that I'm held accountable for those actions, but in general, I feel this whole situation could've been prevented with a more understanding admin team.
So yeah, that's it, I'm a phony. My editing skills on Wikipedia have improved so much, but some not so great habits have continued to get the worst of me and resulted in my, honestly, well deserved downfall. I take full responsibility for what I did, but at the same time, the admins on Wikipedia proper are so unwelcoming that I feel there isn't a chance of me ever getting forgiven, and of there was, I already blew it months ago.
My only reason for joining Wikipedia in the first place was to expand it's hub of knowledge, but a lot of my worst personality traits got in the way while doing so and ended in a not so good career on the site. I don't feel its right for me ever to edit on any Wikimedia site again, but at the same time, there's still so much I want to add here.
Sorry for such a long read, if you're even still reading by now, thank you. I was a fool. but in a way misunderstood, a tragic hero if you would, and ultimately one of my flaws resulted in my sorry fate. I'm still an active editor over on Fandom, and there, have been far more productive and rule obeying. It's been a great time editing there, but it was also great editing here. Still, with all that has gone down, it doesn't feel right to keep editing on here, and if I'm being honest, it's probably in your best interests you have me banned.
