Alvarito
Personally, I would not have moved the page to a nickname, if only because nicknames in Spanish tend to be almost universal. That means it becomes ambiguous in time. Second, a person well-known now may become much less well-known in time. Fame is fleeting. Such are the repetitions in Spanish nicknames that Alvarito is bound to be used for many others. Likewise "Paco", the traditional term for "Francisco". Would you have a page title "Chalky" for someone whose surname is Miller? Macdonald-ross (talk) 07:21, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
- From what I could tell, that was the name that was usually used, and the enwiki move seemed to be uncontroversial. I will check some more... -- Belwine (talk) 12:11, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
- I've done another search. From what I can tell, the full name is used just as much as Alvarito, if not a little more, so WP:COMMONNAME doesn't apply.
I've messaged the person who moved the page on enwiki to find sources that show Alvarito is the common name. --Belwine (talk) 15:44, 1 April 2021 (UTC)- I left a message on the mover's page. It seems to be a WP:COMMONNAME. --Ferien (talk) 19:39, 22 April 2021 (UTC)

Help
Greetings, please can you explain to me how to create an article on wikipedia in general English, I don't know if there is a manual to create an article, since every time I try it sends me to a creation wizard that is very different from wikipedia in Spanish which only allows me to create a draft but then it is deleted. You need help creating a wikipedia article in general English. I am a user of wikipedia in Spanish and I have never had experience in wikipedia in English. LeoPla99 (talk) 14:43, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
- The manual of style can help you with what to do when making your article. To make an article, just go to the page you want to create (https://simple.wiki.x.io/wiki/---, --- being the page you want to create). If you need any more help, let me know. --Belwine (talk) 15:27, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
- @LeoPla99: It sounds like you might want to create an article on English Wikipedia, not Simple English Wikipedia. You now have a draft: en:Draft:Playones. It has not been deleted, but you did not submit it yet. Before you submit it, you will need to add references. The visual editor is a good way to add references. Once you are ready to submit the article to be approved, add {{subst:submit}}. Then somebody will review it. Lights and freedom (talk) 20:25, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
Meitei mythology vs religion
Dear Belwine, I appreciate your activity on the Meitei topics, especially the efforts at categorizing them. I wrote up further thoughts about yesterday's progress. As I believe that mythology is a subtopic of religion, I don't want to make any changes without discussion. Please see User talk:Haoreima#Mythology vs religion and respond there so we can have a dialogue with User:Haoreima. Cheers! -- Deborahjay (talk) 06:08, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
- Done User talk:Haoreima is on my watchlist so I am aware of changes that happen there. Will sort out the categories later... --Belwine (talk) 11:28, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
Picture quality from desktop screen
@Belwine: I have recently uploaded the pictures of 7 dragons. Since I am a mobile user, I don't know whether these pictures look at good resolution in the desktop screens or not! In your screen, is any of the following look like in less resolution? If any, please tell me, I will create a better one! Haoreima (talk) 09:11, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
Collapsing images to make it easier to browse through talk page --Belwine (talk) 16:13, 4 April 2021 (UTC)

- They all seem pretty good for resolution on desktop. --Belwine (talk) 09:36, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
OK. Haoreima (talk) 14:34, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
@Belwine: What is collapsing? Haoreima (talk) 16:16, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
- Basically, you can just collapse content to make it easier to scroll past. Those images were taking up a lot of space, so I just collapsed them. If you expand the green box, you can still see the images. --Belwine (talk) 16:18, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
Wikimedia Commons knowledge
Do you have any idea about Wikimedia Commons? Can a picture of my own work which has no EXIF data be uploaded? Will it be nominated for deletion? Haoreima (talk) 16:01, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
- I am not really an active Wikimedia Commons user, apologies. You could ask on the c:Commons:Help desk, they might be able to help. --Belwine (talk) 16:06, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
Sure. Haoreima (talk) 16:11, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: I think images can be uploaded without EXIF data. Obviously I may be wrong here, so keep on checking here for an actual response to your question... --Belwine (talk) 19:26, 4 April 2021 (UTC)

I saw you told someone there who was asking for sock puppet investigation of my account to the admins. Actually, my, this very current account, is the first to use Wikimedia Commons! Thanks, you remind him about me. -- Haoreima (talk) 03:20, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- No problem. I found it quite rude that you were being accused of socking the moment you started editing there properly, it's quite bitey behaviour IMO. --Belwine (talk) 09:56, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- You are right. Haoreima (talk) 15:16, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
@Belwine: As you said about WP:BITE, I think a person says that the files uploaded in Wikimedia can either be deleted or undeleted, this depends on the trusts of the editors and admins. This seems like in middle ages, the lives of the commoners depend on the whims and fancies of the warlords. Please see http://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/Files_uploaded_by_Haoreima
What can I do? Can you suggest me? Haoreima (talk) 04:49, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- The files you uploaded are made by you, correct?
- The general rule is files uploaded by you can be kept and files not get deleted. If the files have other issues then they can still be deleted. You may want to read c:Commons:Deletion policy. --Belwine (talk) 10:43, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
Wikitionary
Can I perform contributions to Wikitionary? What guidelines can I get? What is it's purpose? Haoreima (talk) 16:23, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: Like Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia, Wiktionary is an online dictionary. I don't have much experience with Wiktionary, only a little on the Simple English Wiktionary.
There also seems to be a Meitei Wiktionary here, if you are interested in that. --Belwine (talk) 16:33, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
Oh, thanks. Haoreima (talk) 07:02, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

Recent changes
- Editors can collapse part of an article so you have to click on it to see it. When you click a link to a section inside collapsed content it will now expand to show the section. The browser will scroll down to the section. Previously such links didn't work unless you manually expanded the content first. [1]
Changes later this week
- The citoid API will use for example
2010-12-XX
instead of2010-12
for dates with a month but no days. This is because2010-12
could be confused with2010-2012
instead ofDecember 2010
. This is called level 1 instead of level 0 in the Extended Date/Time Format. [2] - The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 6 April. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 7 April. It will be on all wikis from 8 April (calendar).
Future changes
- PAWS can now connect to the new Wiki Replicas. Cross-database
JOINS
will no longer work from 28 April. There is a new way to connect to the databases. Until 28 April both ways to connect to the databases will work. If you think this affects you and you need help you can post on Phabricator or on Wikitech.

how do i get my start
HI! I am looking to contribute to simple wiki! I would like to know some starter tips to contribute to the thing. You seem very established on simple wiki and want some tips! Thanks you!
Moem3jasa (talk) 01:45, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Moem3jasa: Hello, welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia.
- The welcome message that Tsugaru left on your talk page should be helpful to you.
- I find the best way to get started is to fix typos and basic errors in articles. Then, do more advanced work from there. It is best not to make an article as soon as you get here.
- If you need any more help, please let me know. --Belwine (talk) 10:39, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
Hi!
Could you do me a favor? I would like the article Pokèmon mini to be translated from en.wiki. I would do it, but I don't know how and I'm not exactly the greatest at writing articles. -Derpdart56 (talk) 15:00, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- Ok, I will have a try making it soon, maybe later today. :) --Belwine (talk) 15:03, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

User account issue
Is there any way if a user forgets his password and he hadn't put email address during registration? Is the user account need to be compromised? Or, is there any way? `Haoreima (talk) 16:53, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- You can add an email in your preferences here if you forgot during registration. You cannot reset your password if you haven't got an email connected! --Belwine (talk) 16:57, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
- Oh thanks! Haoreima (talk) 17:03, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
@Belwine: If the user account is log out in the above situation, then will the account need to be compromised? Haoreima (talk) 13:47, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: I'm a little confused about what you are trying to say.
- If you reset your password or email, you might have to log back in with your password (if resetting your password, then the previous password, not your new one), so I'd recommend writing your password down somewhere or using something like w:LastPass. --Belwine (talk) 13:50, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- Indeed. I found this the hard way a few years ago when I forgot the password to my old account and no email was registered, so I was locked out and had to start this one. --IWI (talk) 13:54, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
@Belwine and ImprovedWikiImprovement: you are right, IWI. Actually, I was talking about en:User:Goutamkumar Oinam, which has same case as thine, so I created en:User:Goutamkumar Oinam 2, which is like thy current account. I want to have an unblock request for "Goutamkumar Oinam 2". I don't think it's a sock puppet account since it's created only after the loss of access to the foremost account. What suggestions you guys have for me? Haoreima (talk) 15:41, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- As you still created this account, the admins/checkusers on enwiki may still not want to unblock you. In my opinion, it is probably best for you to use this account and no other accounts for 6 months from when you were blocked on this account (see the standard offer page) then request an unblock. Lots of enwiki admins actually ask people to come here to show that they have worked well whilst blocked on enwiki, so you could also point to your work here in your unblock. --Belwine (talk) 15:54, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
@Belwine: Do you mean after six months, the unblock request should be done only from User:Haoreima and not any other account? Haoreima (talk) 16:11, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: As you're using this account on mniwiki and here, I'd recommend just using Haoreima. It can be done on Goutamkumar Oinam 2, but you do not use that account here or on mniwiki so it would make sense to just use Haoreima for all Wikimedia projects. --Belwine (talk) 16:15, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
@Belwine: Sure, Belwine! I like your suggestion. I will try my best to show all my edits in both mni as well as simple wikis in a better constructive way, so that I may get positive response from the admins in en wiki in future. Thank you for the advice! Haoreima (talk) 16:18, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: Just a note though. Waiting 6 months and editing constructively will not necessarily mean you will be unblocked on enwiki, although it increases your chances of being unblocked. I recommend reading through the standard offer page if you have not already. --Belwine (talk) 16:20, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Belwine:Reading but at the same time, I have a doubt whether a confirmed blocked sock puppet account will be unblocked or not. Haoreima (talk) 16:23, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: Also, as you have more than 2-3 sockpuppets on enwiki according to the category, I think you will have to be unbanned through community discussion, per w:WP:3X. --Belwine (talk) 16:26, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
@Belwine: Unbanned? Am I banned? I think my former accounts are only blocked but I have no idea about them being banned! Haoreima (talk) 16:28, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- See w:WP:3X.
Editors who are confirmed by a CheckUser to have engaged in sockpuppetry on at least two occasions after an initial indefinite block that is active, for any reason, are effectively site banned by the Wikipedia community.
If all the confirmed sockpuppets are yours, then the three strike rule applies: You are effectively site banned by the English Wikipedia community. --Belwine (talk) 16:33, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
Oh then I will digest all the guideline pages you offer. Thanks. Haoreima (talk) 16:37, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
Vandalism
Hello Belwine, I was wondering if you could put a semi-protected plate on Verdis due to recent vandalisms? I am unsure of how to do it as I am still quite new to Simple English Wikipedia. Much appreciated! Acc013 (talk) 09:45, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Acc013: Hi! I have left a note on your talk page already. If many IPs are vandalising the page then you can request semi-protection on the administrators' noticeboard. Only administrators can protect pages. Even if I did put a semi-protection template on there, it would not show up, as the page is not protected, and IPs could still edit the page. I will keep an eye on the page, though, and will request semi-protection if necessary. --Belwine (talk) 09:49, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
The new RFA
You may not have seen the messages in the past about this, but we ask that people don't add RFAs to the RFP page unless they are the nominator or nominee. Not only is it possible that the RFA page was created as a test, but part of what we want to see is that the person can figure out to add it themselves. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 10:20, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- Oh, sorry about that. --Belwine (talk) 10:30, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- Yep they shouldn't be voted on until they are placed there by the nominee as they are not considered live until that point and could just be a draft page that they may intend to expand etc. -Djsasso (talk) 11:43, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
The IP is back at it again. Darubrub (talk) 13:07, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

Flood flag?
Would you mind maybe requesting the flood flag while you make these category changes? Otherwise new changes is filled up with them at the moment. Just a thought. If you'll be done soon, no problem. Desertborn (talk) 19:08, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- I'll probably be done soon and I am also keeping an eye on recent changes. With those ones where I was removing Category:Settlements in Kerala, that was actually something I was doing with the flood flag a few hours ago, but not all of them went through. --Belwine (talk) 19:10, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

- @Joemama1400: Hello. I will continue to remove your "helpful" and "informatory additions" that are actually very offensive to people. You likely do not care about a block, but, just so you know, there are admins on the English Wikipedia who would quickly block you without any warning after adding content like that. It's not acceptable. Also, you don't own articles, so anyone is welcome to remove or adapt your changes. Parratt - British or any??
@Belwine: I want to create an article about an author but... I saw a page en:John Parratt which is about a cricketer. But there's another person John Parratt, who's a famous author. I don't know whether these two persons are same or not. For the author, please see https://www.google.co.in/search?q=inauthor:%22John+Parratt%22&prmd=nimv&sxsrf=ALeKk00oa78AaVngH5yXWj797338c7QrDA:1618073646614&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjI2rSHkvTvAhWmzjgGHaPmA0oQ_AUIFigA&biw=360&bih=592&dpr=2
Is Parratt an English surname or British? Could you please clarify me the difference between British people and English people? Haoreima (talk) 16:58, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
- Let me quickly explain.. England, Wales and Scotland are all on the island of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is on the island of Ireland. England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are all in the United Kingdom (of Great Britain and Northern Ireland). So an English person is technically a British person, but not the other way round.
- These two people (John Parratt and John Parratt) are probably not the same person from what I have seen. I don't think a cricketer would be writing about theology. According to this, Parratt came from France to England, so I am assuming it is an English name. --Belwine (talk) 17:05, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
@Belwine: Thanks bro! You helped me a lot! Haoreima (talk) 17:08, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
@Belwine: So, shall I create the article like this: John Parratt (writer) and John Parratt (cricketer)? Haoreima (talk) 17:53, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
If so, then we need a move in en wiki for the existing article. Haoreima (talk) 17:54, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah, if you're creating both then you're going to need to disambiguate. However, there's not an article on the writer on enwiki right now, so there isn't a need to disambiguate there yet. --Belwine (talk) 18:10, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
Ok Haoreima (talk) 03:31, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Belwine is correct in principle, but it's helpful when we use the same title as enwiki, even if we have only one of the articles here. That's because people might bring over articles that link to one or the other, and those articles could link to the wrong page if the titles don't match.
- By the way, please pay attention to indenting your replies. You haven't indented properly with any of your replies in this section. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 06:09, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Auntof6: Since this is an edit in talk page of a user, what is the significance of intending reply? I usually create ping template as well as use 4 twigs during reply. Isn't that enough? BTW, these are through automatic visual editing. I think so.
And lastly, please use ping if you are replying to me in other's talk page. It will ease me to get noticed. Else, I might not known since I don't recheck other's talk page everytime. Haoreima (talk) 12:30, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: Ok. Indenting replies makes following the conversation a lot easier. Basically, just add on a : for each reply. So when I send you a new message, you should reply with : behind it. Then when I reply to that, I should add :: behind it. Then when you reply to that, you should add ::: to your reply, etc.
- By the way, when you are on my talk page, you do not need to ping me as I get notifications whenever anyone messages me on my talk page. You can ping other editors, but when you are on someone else's talk page, you do not need to ping the talk page owner. The amount of notifications I get is the same.--Belwine (talk) 12:45, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

Removal of QD warning
Hi! Just wondering why you removed that QD warning from that IP? Best, Milo, Talk, Contribs 19:36, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
- That editor is banned by the WMF, it is best not to warn globally banned users. I'd recommend turning off automatic
warningsQD notices for G3 in Twinkle settings. Best, --Belwine (talk) 19:37, 10 April 2021 (UTC)- Just a side-note that it wasn't a warning but a notification of the deletion. If you read it, it doesn't actually "warn" at all. --IWI (talk) 19:40, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
- Oh I've never come across that policy before - is there a Wikipedia page laying it out that you could link, as I've been away from Wikipedia for a while so things might have changed a little! Help me
@Belwine: I need your help now. Suggest me what shall be done at the best to save the articles whose deletion nomination message has been received at my talk page recently. Haoreima (talk) 06:46, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: you might be able to move them into a user sandbox. However, it is important that the subject of your article claims notability. For example, if I publish a book, it doesn't necessarily mean that an article should be published on it. Also, ensure that the subject of your article passes the general notability guideline. --Belwine (talk) 10:14, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
- I also see Auntof6 has left some helpful suggestions for you on their talk page. --Belwine (talk) 10:17, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Belwine: Thanks for reverting the edit. I saw a stranger doing something without my permission to my talk page. Same as yours recently. How can I revert a person's multiple edits? As you suggest me before, I know a single edit revert by doing undo! What about multiple edits? Haoreima (talk) 12:44, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: You will have to undo multiple times, or use Twinkle. If you are a rollbacker, you can undo all of one person's changes very quickly using rollback. --Belwine (talk) 12:46, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

- @Haoreima: Just undo all vandalistic edits and warn using Twinkle. Then report to WP:VIP once they continue after a level 4 warning. If someone has edited after the bad edits happened, and didn't notice, then just remove the bad edits manually.
- Once you have given all of these out...

- Oh then without you anti-vandalism guys, Wikipedia will almost be a place for those pirates. Mon dieu! Haoreima (talk) 12:59, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: Indeed. As Juliancolton (a former administrator here) once said here,
if nobody ever wrote another article, Wikipedia would remain a useful and comprehensive resource for years, even decades, to come. Without vandal-fighters, Wikipedia would be useless in a matter of days.
It is quite important that vandalism is reverted as quickly as possible... --Belwine (talk) 13:04, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

- If I am not wrong, is it true that in English language Wikipedia, vandalism fighters are mainly British users? Because British pay emphasis on their mother tongue English. And non-English speaking people seldom take care of English wiki. Instead, they do the same to their mother tongue wikis. Am I right? Haoreima (talk) 13:07, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: Yes, mainly, but not always. Whilst it is mostly English-speaking users who fight vandalism on the English Wikipedia, there are lots of editors and admins who are not native English speakers. And here on the Simple English Wikipedia, there are a few admins and editors who are not native English speakers who contribute massively to the project.
- Obviously though, it is much easier to contribute to your mother tongue wiki, because you know, it's easier to speak.. English is a complicated language, especially if it is not your native language.
- I tried contributing on dewiki the other day, but it is, obviously, much harder to contribute as it is not my native language. So yes, I think you're right mainly, people prefer contributing to the wiki of their own language. --Belwine (talk) 13:15, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

- Thanks for pinging. But especially and particularly for you, Belwine, I always eagerly wait for your response in anyone's talk page. BTW, sometimes I found the notification of someone mentioning me comes to me almost an hour later or in some rare case, a day later. It really angers me. Do you have any experience like this? Haoreima (talk) 13:27, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
- On mobile, people are facing issues where they cannot see notifications at all. This may be related. See the discussion here. However, on mobile, I always get notifications, hence why I was able to deal with the vandalism we talked about above so quickly. --Belwine (talk) 13:29, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

- I can perform both mobile view editing as well as desktop view editing in my same gadget. BTW, in my mobile, I saw a bell🔔 icon at the top right screen. This bell icon becomes a reddish circle whenever a notification came. Usually, I received the notices a few seconds later after the editor's edit. But, sometimes, bugs also happened. The notification of some users in the section "MNI" in my talk page, involving Djsasso, Tsugaru and you, came to my notice 10 hours later. It's very disappointing for me. Haoreima (talk) 13:34, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: Hmm, that's strange. I receive all cross-wiki notifications almost instantly. Sometimes I am contributing on a completely different wiki and in the middle of something I sometimes get a notification for a message or mention on another wiki. --Belwine (talk) 13:37, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

- I live in the outskirts of Imphal. So, since my place is a sub urban area, might it be the reason also? Haoreima (talk) 13:41, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: Probably not. I am in a rural area of the West Midlands region and do not face these issues, although our internet speeds may be different. The notifications should load when you load a wiki page you are editing or reading, if I'm not mistaken. --Belwine (talk) 13:46, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

@Belwine: In other sense, you seem to be my lucky charm! Did you know why? Every evening internet speed surged down in my area. But as soon as you reply to my query in your talk page, internet speed for my server boosted. What a coincidence! Love you ❤😘. Haoreima (talk) 11:54, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: are you still facing the issues with notifications with higher internet speeds? --Belwine (talk) 11:57, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- Yes! Oh the delayed notifications for wiki seldom occur. Usually, I received the notifications a few seconds later after the person's edit.
But irrelevant to Wikipedia, I have problem with my server. That's the case for which I call you my lucky charm of a sudden coincidence for internet speed boosting up. Haoreima (talk) 12:02, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- Ah ok, good that the issue is now fixed. Maybe it is related to internet speed. --Belwine (talk) 12:03, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
Wikipedia translation of the week: 2021-15
The winner this Translation of the week is
Please be bold and help to translation this article! Mammoth central is a paleontological site on the grounds of the Santa Lucía Airport in the state of Mexico, Mexico which contains the remains of at least 200 Columbian mammoths as well as 25 camels and five horses. The site is the world's largest concentration of mammoth remains; the previous was the Mammoth Site of Hot Springs in South Dakota with only 61 individuals. Human tools and carved bones have also been discovered at the site, suggesting that humans utilized the site to trap and kill large mammals. More fossils continue to be found at the site. The dig will end in 2022, when the airport's construction is projected to conclude. (Please update the interwiki links on Wikidata of your language version of the article after each week's translation is finished so that all languages are linked to each other.) From incubator to simple- Translation message delivery
Hello Pal! Please could you remove and reinsert my username from Wikimedia Incubator mni to simple English Wikipedia talk page in the meta wiki for subscription/un subscription section page of the weekly translation program. Actually, I have tried to do so. But my attempt failed, I don't know what happened! Please do it for me. Haoreima (talk) 02:46, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: It is currently on mni.wiki.x.io. Do you still want me to change it to simple.wiki.x.io? --Belwine (talk) 09:19, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- It is actually currently trying to deliver to mni:User:Haoreima, your user page, hence why it probably is not working. --Belwine (talk) 09:22, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
Oh once I requested someone almost many days back to do the favour for me. But I don't know any sign of response. It's only today when I saw the translation message delivered to your talk page, I remember that. So, made a mind to request you. Well, if it's changed to from incubator to mni target, it's ok. But can we have two target sites for a single user? Is it against the rules? Haoreima (talk) 10:15, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: No, it is not against the rules to have two target sites. Shall I fix your mni one, and add your simple talk page? --Belwine (talk) 10:52, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, bro! That's exactly what I like! Haoreima (talk) 11:52, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- Done. Every week you should receive the mass message on your talk page on mni and simple wikis. :) --Belwine (talk) 11:56, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

Blanking of user talk pages is allowed only for registered users, not for IP talk pages. --Auntof6 (talk) 13:24, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Auntof6: w:WP:OWNTALK says that both registered and unregistered users can remove content from talk pages. As there is no WP:OWNTALK page here, I am assuming that we follow the English Wikipedia with this? --Belwine (talk) 13:49, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- We haven't allowed it here because an IP talk page doesn't belong to an individual user. Therefore, the message being removed could have been intended for a different person. Maybe this is worth discussing and clarifying how we should handle it here. --Auntof6 (talk) 14:07, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah, I have seen discussions in the past about it, in archives. I have seen some where people think it is best for IP talks not to be blanked, and I think I may have seen some people saying it is ok for IP talks to be blanked - although I am struggling to find the latter again! --Belwine (talk) 14:49, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

Continuation
Oh Belwine! Actually I and the mni admin told another user not to put English words to mni wiki. At this, there was a strong conflict. So, to gain assurance, I willingly and intentionally asked you (a British user) so that the user mni:User:Luwanglinux may reconcile at me and the admin. Btw, your first talk really impressed me but the 2nd one, 🤣🤣🤣 he will really take advantage of that (your 2nd reply). LOL😂😂😂. Haoreima (talk) 16:55, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- Well, as I said, it depends on your opinion of course. Obviously, mniwiki is not an English Wikipedia. But in the Wikipedia: namespace, you don't have to be as strict about it, I suppose. I will leave the decision about English up to you three. --Belwine (talk) 17:02, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

- How do I make an image the background of my talkpage? [See here for what I mean) Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 00:57, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- @つがる: From what I can tell, you just need to add <div style="width: 810px; margin: 2em auto; background: white; border: 10px solid gray;"
- >[[File:Paint background.jpg|810px]]
- <div style="position: relative; top: -1625px; margin-bottom: -1625px;"></div>

- Ok, it worked well with the paint background (see here) but it did not work at all with the background on your sandbox here. I will have more of a look when I have more time. --Ferien (talk) 10:01, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
- @つがる: So I think you will probably need a more portrait background. Also, the image would not last the whole talk page, it would go down a few topics and then it would stop. --Ferien (talk) 17:41, 15 April 2021 (UTC)

Request
Hi, can I please ask for an informal peer review of work done thus far on Rojava and Eastern Kurdistan? GPinkerton (talk) 14:48, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- @GPinkerton: Hi. I think that Eastern Kurdistan is good, there could be a little simplification done e.g. part of Iran inhabited by Kurds -> part of Iran where Kurds live. I think Rojava is good too. Although it looks a little overwhelming at first with all the text, the bits I have read are simple in my opinion. Thanks for linking to the more complicated words and/or explaining them.
- By the way, you can't really copy from the English Wikipedia for text (especially for these sorts of things, they are very complicated in language) but you can always copy infoboxes across. You can also copy tables across, as long as you can ensure they are simple. You might want to do that for some of the articles you made. --Belwine (talk) 14:57, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- Great, thanks for looking at them! On the subject of linking unfamiliar words: are users expected to have "learnt" words once they've been linked once already, or must they be linked every time? Both articles can be extended more, but I wanted to be sure things are on the right track for now. Is there anything major at present that would stand in the way of a good article nomination? (Obviously leaving aside that some sections of politics and recent history (esp. E. Kurdistan) are missing thus far, and the geographical information could be fleshed out.) On infoboxes: did you have specific articles in mind? GPinkerton (talk) 15:29, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- About users learning words, I'm not sure, although I'm assuming yes, I don't think they should be linked every time. These are the GA requriements. I suppose after you've extended a bit more, it could meet them but I am not active at WP:PGA, so you may want to ask another editor about that. About the infoboxes, I just looked at the English Wikipedia version of Rojava to compare, you could add the infobox for that if you wanted, but it is more just in general, not specific articles. --Belwine (talk) 15:35, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) @GPinkerton: Here's a link where we discussed what to link. --Auntof6 (talk) 18:35, 13 April 2021 (UTC)

- Those are not reliable sources, so they don't prove anything to me. You have spent months trying to prove Higgins' activity (it all started in December 2020 when you emailed me) to the point where you have literally been changing Fandom and finding the above most random pages on the Internet. First it was "I swear I saw it on the internet", now it is giving me random websites that basically say just as much to me - they don't prove that it's true. Can you find any actual, reliable sources? I'm talking BBC, New York Times, even Daily Mail if you really want, something that remotely proves that she was active from 1988, it is more reliable than the above. --Belwine (talk) 18:44, 13 April 2021 (UTC)
It got changed for some reason and now every time I try to look up an actor or movie, it just says nothing but, "ipfs resolve -r, no link named 'whatever actor and movie.html,' and under bafybeihn2f7lhumh4grizksi2fl233cyszqadkn424ptjajfenykpsaiw4." I don't even have a clue what that even means or is, but I hope the people on the internet weren't responsible for it. I know a few examples.

Username change
At around midnight UTC on 14 April 2021, I changed my username from Belwine to Ferien, hence why you will not see the "Belwine" username anymore. :) --Ferien (talk) 18:06, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
New username
Hello Ferein! It took me some minutes to get notice that you change your username. In fact, I do also have the same desire. Can my current username be changed into "ꯒꯧꯇꯝꯀꯨꯃꯥꯔ ꯑꯣꯏꯅꯥꯝ", totally free from Latin Roman script? Haoreima (talk) 13:19, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: Hello. Yes, I changed my username from Belwine to Ferien. I actually made the request a month ago, but as someone already registered under that username, I had to wait a month before usurping it. To change your username, make a request at m:SRUC. I don't think anyone is registered under the username ꯒꯧꯇꯝꯀꯨꯃꯥꯔ ꯑꯣꯏꯅꯥꯝ so you can make a request under the normal requests section. --Ferien (talk) 13:36, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Belwine: Finally, done. But it's pending. How long will it take to get completed? Haoreima (talk) 13:48, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
- I'm not sure. Simple username change requests do not take very long, I think a few days? But usurp requests, like mine, take a month, as they need to notify the user whose username you are usurping. --Ferien (talk) 14:19, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
- During submission of form for changing username, email was asked. I added one. But personally, my user account has no attachment to any email. Will there be any problem? Haoreima (talk) 08:34, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: If you add an email, it can be used so that if you forget your password, you can reset it. No-one can email you at the moment via the Special:EmailUser feature, so you are only going to get notifications about what you're doing on Wikipedia. --Ferien (talk) 10:47, 15 April 2021 (UTC)

- @Haoreima: Also, I noticed that I could actually see the letters ꯒꯧꯇꯝꯀꯨꯃꯥꯔ ꯑꯣꯏꯅꯥꯝ on my phone, which was quite interesting. I cannot see them on desktop devices. I am not sure if you will be able to rename to that, with the letters being quite hard to see on most devices. Vandalism
Belwine! I saw many anonymous people performing vandalism by creating unfair named articles. But in en wiki, I had experienced that unregistered users can't create any page. But is this contrasting here? Haoreima (talk) 16:07, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: Do you mean this, this and this? Requesting all of them for QD would fill up recent changes, so I have just reported to WP:VIP, and an admin will delete them all. And yes, unregistered users can create articles here. --Ferien (talk) 16:10, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
OMG, then can I also create article by logging out? Is it a vandalism? Haoreima (talk) 16:13, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
- You shouldn't really be editing logged out if you have an account, this could count as abusing multiple accounts. But, yes, I suppose technically you could.
- These bad articles have now all been deleted by IWI, by the way :D --Ferien (talk) 16:14, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
Reverting my edit on Danganronpa(franchise)
Do we really need all these specific articles about the games?
I didn't revert it back because I didn't want to start an edit war.
What is your say on this? SoyokoAnis - talk 19:40, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
- @SoyokoAnis: It is just that the article before was specifically about that game. Enwiki also has them so I do not see why we don't need to have them.
- Changing it into a full franchise article is like turning an article a little bit like turning an article about a country into an article about the whole continent, in my opinion. We can make another article for the franchise, but I noticed how that article was talking about that game in particular, so I reverted back to the version that just said about that one game.
- I hope that makes sense. Best regards, --Ferien (talk) 19:43, 15 April 2021 (UTC)

- @Haoreima: Well I am wrong then. For en:Khuman, I'm wondering what would be the best thing to disambiguate it to. --Ferien (talk) 16:57, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- But see en:Khuman Salai, en:Khuman, en:Khuman Singh, en:Khuman Lampak Main Stadium. Haoreima (talk) 16:55, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- Well, since I am unable to perform any edits on en wiki, I could not create any Khuman related topics further. So, the best suggestion is to disambiguate every article which mention the word "Khuman" in the en disambiguation. And please make sure to connect the en disambiguation with simple en disambiguation Khuman. Thank you. Haoreima (talk) 17:03, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- I am bad at disambiguations though, so it is probably best for me not to create one there. Although I'm pretty sure with disambiguations there should only be one if something is not the most common thing you're talking about. So for example, w:London is just w:London because when you're talking about London, you are likely going to be talking about London, the capital city. However, you could also be talking about the w:City of London (very centre of London), London in Kiribati, Canada, Serbia, France, Arkansas, California, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Texas, West Virginia or Wisconsin! But, we need to think whether when you say London, you are going to think whether you are likely going to talk about a community with 200 people or a city with ~10,000,000.
- @Haoreima: So, back to what we were actually talking about, w:Khuman. When you say Khuman, are you generally referring to this or something else? --Ferien (talk) 17:12, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

- When I mention Khuman, I mean Khuman dynasty because personally, I myself is a descendant of the Khuman dynasty. And en:Khuman has no relationship with us. The en:Khuman Lampak Main Stadium is presently a sports stadium but historically, it has relation with the Khuman Emperors. So, many people of my ethnic group will really get confused with the en:Khuman because it mentions about a clan from western India but my very Khuman is of eastern India. Haoreima (talk) 17:17, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: Actually, no, I was wrong above, per w:WP:NWFCTM. Let me look at the traffic to these pages... --Ferien (talk) 17:20, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

Hmm. I have looked at the traffic to the pages above and the traffic to Khuman Salai is MUCH (up to 6x) higher than the traffic to Khuman. Maybe a disambiguation page is appropriate. --Ferien (talk) 17:24, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- Well, then what I can say is that both Khuman clan (Western Indian) (in en, en:Khuman) and Khuman (eastern Indian) (in en, en:Khuman Salai) are equally popular. Though the page name Khuman (referring to that of West India) was first created without having any knowledge of disambiguation by someone. Now, we must change it. Btw, even simple wiki has a strong testimony. en:Khuman Salai is equivalent to simple:Khuman dynasty. Haoreima (talk) 17:26, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- Wow, I have never known that commoners like us can check viewership for a wiki page though viewership calculation is sometimes published by Wikimedia! BTW, thanks for introducing that to me. Haoreima (talk) 17:31, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
Hi
Hi it's me. After few days I was busy in Enwiki on 2021 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election editing. I saw you change your username. Good. Could you please tell your original name. Or nickname better. So that I can recognize you in future. With best wishes. DJRC (talk) 16:53, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

- @TTP1233: We have a few more active editors, we have a new admin (IWI), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has become a good article and Geisha has been demoted from a very good article to GA. Apart from that, things are about the same as when you left, unless I've forgotten something important. --Ferien (talk) 17:03, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

New Wikipedia
Hello @Ferien: I saw Ancient Greek Wikipedia Incubator, then, Old English Wikipedia and Latin Wikipedia. Like these, I want to develop a new Wikipedia for Ancient Meitei language. It's code is omp. But I have seen many opposition while struggling for creation of Ancient Greek Wikipedia. See,
- http://meta.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_Ancient_Greek
- http://meta.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/Proposals_for_closing_projects/Closure_of_Old_English_Wikipedia
What is your suggestion? What shall I do? Haoreima (talk) 18:36, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: Ok. I think you should start a new wiki in Incubator, but follow the steps for how to start a new wiki. I don't have experience in starting a new wiki, so maybe you should ask your friend Awangba Mangang for help, as he started the Meitei Wikipedia. Ask him what he thinks about the idea of an Ancient Meitei Wikipedia. --Ferien (talk) 19:08, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Also, please be sure to make sure browsers can have the language's script code/font installed. Sometimes on my browser, I only see boxes. --Tsugaru Let's Talk! :) 🍁 20:26, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

- @つがる and Ferien: So, will there be opposition during the request to meta wiki for the script font issue? But mni wiki is already approved, like this, I think omp should be allowed too. And since I am blocked in en wiki, I don't know whether I will face obstacles or not during the request. Haoreima (talk) 03:16, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: You will likely not receive opposition for the issue with how Meitei text is viewed, this didn't seem to be an issue at the Meitei Wikipedia request. And Awangba Mangang is also blocked on enwiki, but he has managed to open mniwiki. You may want to check m:Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Ancient Greek 4 for the arguments for and against an ancient language. --Ferien (talk) 08:06, 18 April 2021 (UTC)

The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
I don't know what is meant by not grayed out editors. Do you have any idea about this? Haoreima (talk) 08:41, 18 April 2021 (UTC)

An incubator will be approved as a Wikipedia only when:

- at least 3 active users performing edits for 3 consecutive months

- @つがる: Thank you so much for your kindness. But please visit Ferien's talk page in the incubator and please check on the ongoing issue we are discussing. Haoreima (talk) 04:22, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Ferien: I get answers from two users. Please see m:User talk:VIGNERON and incubator:User talk:PastelKos, where I get the privilege to discuss. Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- Email to the Wikimedia wikis are handled by groups of Wikimedia editors. These volunteer response teams now use Znuny instead of OTRS. The functions and interface remain the same. The volunteer administrators will give more details about the next steps soon. [3][4]
- If you use syntax highlighting, you can see line numbers in the 2010 and 2017 wikitext editors when editing templates. This is to make it easier to see line breaks or talk about specific lines. Line numbers will soon come to all namespaces. [5][6][7]
- Because of a technical change there could be problems with gadgets and scripts that have an edit summary area that looks similar to this one. If they look strange they should use
mw.loader.using('mediawiki.action.edit.styles')
to go back to how they looked before. [8] - The latest version of MediaWiki came to the Wikimedia wikis last week. There was no Tech News issue last week.
Changes later this week
- There is no new MediaWiki version this week.
Future changes
- The user group

will be renamedsuppress
. This is for technical reasons. This is the technical name. It doesn't affect what you call the editors with this user right on your wiki. This is planned to happen in two weeks. You can comment in Phabricator if you have objections.

Nottingham message-3 times
Today I received the message of connection of the simple wiki article Nottingham Castle with other wiki, three times as I am the creator of the page. And very surprisingly, I don't receive not a single pinging messages. All the pings you did in my username were not known to me until I manually recheck whether you have replied my talks or not. Seriously, I think I will receive those pinging messages tomorrow or day after tomorrow. LOL. 😂😂😂 Haoreima (talk) 17:22, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

Sock tags
Leave sock tagging to the CUs/Admins. Especially the confirmed part. In the case of one I just saw where you switched the confirmed status the two were not confirmed to be the same person which is why they were not marked as confirmed. -Djsasso (talk) 20:26, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
- Oh, well this category was quite a mess when I saw it, so I was mainly just turning suspected to confirmed because I thought they were confirmed on another page. I just won't touch those then. --Ferien (talk) 20:28, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
- Btw, if an admin blocks someone as abusing multiple accounts, is it confirmed or suspected? Sometimes it is obvious, with WP:DUCK, but does that make it confirmed? --Ferien (talk) 20:35, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
- Confirmed requires a CU, though often people will mark it confirmed if it is clearly obvious. We are a bit of a mess on simple with that stuff because everyone tries to tag stuff here. On en.wiki CUs will yell at you if you change the confirmed status (even if you are a CU on another wiki who has confirmed the two accounts... not that I know from experience lol). I believe the template allows for a "blocked" status instead of confirmed for those situations. That being said, often a bunch of us CUs choose to just not tag at all, Bsadowski for example often doesn't tag. I do depending on the situations. If it is a continuing problem with the same editor for example. Basically if the admin/cu doesn't put the tag on then don't tag it cause we might be trying for WP:DENY. -Djsasso (talk) 20:41, 19 April 2021 (UTC)
- Oh ok, I just won't put them on in future, I don't think any harm can really be done in that. If it's urgent then someone else can tag it but I can't imagine tagging a sock urgent. And yes, I've noticed before on enwiki they seem to be a lot stricter with the sock tagging. --Ferien (talk) 20:45, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

Malfunctioning
In mni:ꯋꯤꯀꯤꯄꯦꯗꯤꯌꯥ:WikiProject United Kingdom, something is going wrong. I mean about the page format, the template is going malfunctioned. Please check it. Do you have any idea. In fact, all the contents are just copied from your created page. Haoreima (talk) 15:30, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: Partly done. I have asked Awangba Mangang to import the collapse templates again as the problem seems to be an issue with them. Btw, I didn't create the idea of a wikiproject for the United Kingdom and "There is a lot to do, anyone can join :)" is not a slogan, so you can remove the translation if you wish. --Ferien (talk) 15:40, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

- It seems that you are willing to learn from your mistakes and you recognize when do make them, which is extremely important. Right now there are not enough admins, and even if you do make mistakes, the best way to learn is by making them!

- @Yaakov Wa.: Whilst we used to have about 30 administrators (see https://simple.wiki.x.io/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Administrators&oldid=1699220#List_of_administrators) we also used to have a lot more active users. And the editor to admin ratio is quite high I believe. I think we have enough admins right now. Best regards, --Ferien (talk) 17:04, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- Yaakov W.Yaakov Wa. (talk) 16:56, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) @Yaakov Wa.: Adding a new admin wouldn't provide "more tools to quickly revert vandals". Non-admins can revert as quickly as admins, even without rollback. --Auntof6 (talk) 19:27, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- Dear @Auntof6:,
- I guess what I am saying, is that more admins would help us quickly temp block test editors (don't like term vandal. They are just out to test wikipedia and us), and this would save a lot of time and work. How much sense does this make?
- Blessings,
- Yaakov W.Yaakov Wa. (talk) 20:33, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Yaakov Wa.: You seem to want editors blocked more quickly than we normally do here. Your recent reports at WP:VIP are for editors who have not been warned enough. They should normally have several warnings, in increasing levels for each new bad edit, before being reported. Also, you don't need to say how long a block should be; the admins will choose an appropriate length of time when they block. --Auntof6 (talk) 20:53, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- Dear @Auntof6:,
- The central idea that you are saying is that test editors (We are not talking about regular users here), should go through a procedure of several cautions and only then be blocked. With the block length determined by the blocking admin. Is this correct?
- Blessings,
- Yaakov W.Yaakov Wa. (talk) 21:00, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Yaakov Wa.: Yes. What's the point in blocking an editor for a test edit if they are only going to do one? Just warn so they know for future and if they don't do it again, it's fine. Also, a lot of editors start out just making test edits and edits that violate Wikipedia's guidelines but you can get a constructive editor out of them if you just let them know about the mistake they made. --Ferien (talk) 21:05, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- Yaakov W.Yaakov Wa. (talk) 21:00, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- Dear @Ferien:,
- Thanks! I believe you are correct that we should not block for only one test edit. However, if there are any more test edits after a warning (or there are numerous test edits), I believe that an editor should be temp blocked for a short period of time. Kind of like a little tap to get them thinking more clearly. How much sense am I making?
- Blessings,
- Yaakov W.Yaakov Wa. (talk) 21:11, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- p.s. While we are on the subject of test edits, I personally believe that there should be an "are you sure button" when you press publish. Similarly to how we make an "are you sure" by the thank button. This will save us a whole lot of headaches because when people have to think a little more and not just act on impulse, they tend to make better decisions.
- @Yaakov Wa.: You actually press Publish changes twice when you are saving your edits so this is already the case. So yes, we press twice to thank, and press twice to publish. You press Publish changes, then you can press Show preview or Review your changes to double check and then you press Publish changes. --Ferien (talk) 21:14, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- Dear @Ferien:,
- You are correct that there is an option to look it over. What I am thinking about, and maybe I have to think this over, is making that option mandatory. The rational is that this will help cause editors, to think before they publish. Does this make sense?
- Blessings,
- Yaakov W.Yaakov Wa. (talk) 21:18, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Yaakov Wa.: I don't think that is necessary. Vandal edits here are reverted pretty quickly.
- I can't imagine a new editor just clicking twice very quickly, they probably do check that they're doing what they want to do. --Ferien (talk) 21:21, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- Yaakov W.Yaakov Wa. (talk) 21:18, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
Dear @Ferien:,
It appears that there are two different conversations going on here. One conversation is about test editors (again, I don't like the term vandal). The other conversation is about users of simple wiki in general. In terms of test editors, the conversation about temp blocks apply, whereas the conversation about mandatory "are you sure you want to publish?" button does not apply, because, if they are genuine test editors, they will, as you correctly said, think before publishing. If they are the not-so-well-intentioned type of test editors, they won't care about pushing the button twice.
However, when talking about regular editors here (not about test editors), I believe a mandatory "are you sure you want to publish?" button, would benefit simple wiki a lot, because, many times we can get frustrated and rush to click that publish button. Have you ever pressed that send button in an email and then immediately regretted it? Making this button would alleviate a lot of those issues.
How logical is this idea?
Blessings,

- Dear @つがる:,
- I think you got it! There are two scenarios when keeping an article for an RfD. Unanimous consensus and opposition. When it is unanimously agreed upon to keep, then the RfD can be closed. If there is any opposition, the RfD must run its course. How logical is this?

New template
Hello pal! I am to create a new template about myths. Like this one Template:Jmyth navbox long. It's ready in my sandbox, the Template no. 3. How should I name it (upcoming template)? And is there any rules or special permission I need to create any template I wish? Is there any case of vandalism? Haoreima (talk) 11:52, 24 April 2021 (UTC)

question
Why is there this Wikipedia? What can you do with it? I was looking at some pages and all of them have little text. Why what?--Lentoster (talk) 22:46, 26 April 2021 (UTC)

Closing RFDs
How do you close an RFD? I assume you must be substituting some template. Lights and freedom (talk) 16:28, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Lights and freedom: You just use {{subst:archive top}} on the top and {{subst:archive bottom}} on the bottom. (But I used to copy from old RfDs, not realising this...) Then for the result just replace {{in progress}} with {{deleted|reason ~~~~}} or {{kept|reason ~~~~}}. --Ferien (talk) 16:32, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
- That makes sense, but the requests I looked at did not have {{in progress}}. Instead, they had something like
Lights and freedom (talk) 16:39, 28 April 2021 (UTC):{{lc|Khalil Molanaei}} · <span class="plainlinks">[{{fullurl:Wikipedia:Requests for deletion/Requests/2021/Khalil Molanaei|action=edit}} close request]</span>
- Maybe you are editing the source of the section that says PAGENAME. Above ===PAGENAME=== you should see
- <!-- ATTENTION CLOSING ADMINISTRATOR -->
- <noinclude>{{in progress}}</noinclude>
- <!-- Please change it to either {{deleted|optional reason}} or {{kept|optional reason}}. The archival templates {{subst:archive top}} and {{subst:archive bottom}} are placed at the top and bottom respectively.--> --Ferien (talk) 16:42, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
- That makes sense, but the requests I looked at did not have {{in progress}}. Instead, they had something like
- Yes, I clicked "edit source". I guess you have to click "close request". Lights and freedom (talk) 16:46, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
- That probably works better, I just press edit source. --Ferien (talk) 16:47, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, I clicked "edit source". I guess you have to click "close request". Lights and freedom (talk) 16:46, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
@Lights and freedom: RfDs can be closed when the editors involved in it have reached consensus by an administrator, not by substituting a template I believe. RPBG 💬 🖊 16:34, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
- @RPBG: Still, a subsituted template is used. And whilst administrators usually close RfDs, that RfD was just going to be close as a kept, whether an administrator closed it or not, and also considering that the nominator "voted" keep and there were no delete votes, I just did a non-administrator closure and closed the RfD. --Ferien (talk) 16:36, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
@Ferien: Ok, thank you for helping me out with that (you know) :) RPBG 💬 🖊 16:38, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) @RPBG: However, since you are fairly new, it's better for you to let others do the closures. There's actually a step that Ferien missed, which is partly why we don't usually do non-admin closures here: people who are responsible for the closures (the admins) stay more familiar with everything that needs to be done.. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:45, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah, I did the closure because the result was so clear.
- @Auntof6: Oh, I think I know what I missed: the {{old RfD}} tag... --Ferien (talk) 06:01, 29 April 2021 (UTC)

YouTube links as reference
Despite Wikipedia's guidelines not to add YouTube link as reference, this recently (around February) created page en:List of most-viewed Arabic music videos on YouTube has much of those links. Does this mean that it's still ok for some cases to add YouTube links? Haoreima (talk) 04:16, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: See w:WP:YT, there is not a blanket ban on YouTube videos. However, I don't think YouTube videos should be used as references. --Ferien (talk) 06:17, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) @Haoreima: In that article, the YouTube links are really more to let the reader go watch the video if they want to. They aren't really references, even though they are coded that way. It would have been better to code it differently to make it clear that they are not references, such as by putting the links as external links in a separate column without <ref> tags.
- In general, YouTube videos are not reliable sources because anyone can put up a YouTube video. But it depends on a couple of things. First, if the person or organization who put up the video is reliable, then the video might be considered reliable. Second, sometimes YouTube itself is the authority on something, such as how many views a video has gotten; there isn't anywhere else to get that information. --Auntof6 (talk) 11:45, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Auntof6: So, since YouTube links are the only sources to know the number of viewers for a particular video, while I am creating another article page about YouTube videos, can I use the links? Haoreima (talk) 14:08, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: I can't really answer that unless I know exactly how you're thinking of using them. --Auntof6 (talk) 14:27, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Auntof6: In fact, I fear getting myself the risk of being blocked by admins for violating wiki rules, but at the same time, I want to create an article about the YouTube most viewed videos, citing YouTube links for the information on the number of viewers for the particular videos. Haoreima (talk) 14:29, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Haoreima: I don't know of any YouTube link that would tell you how many views a video has gotten. As far as I know, you can only link to the video, then the user has to figure out for themselves how to find the number of views. Besides that, if you say that a video has gotten a certain number of views, that number will go out of date and linking to the video won't support that statement. But, like I said, I'd have to know exactly how you were going to do the links to give a good opinion. --Auntof6 (talk) 14:36, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Auntof6: Exactly like those in the en wiki page I show in the first talk. I mean exactly like the YouTube link cited for Arabic music "Ashq mot" cited in that page. Haoreima (talk) 14:39, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
┌─────────────────────────────────┘
@Haoreima: I wouldn't do it like that, for the following reasons:
- If I understand correctly, the reference is supposed to show how many views the video has gotten. If that's what you want, then the reference should be in the views column, not in the video name column.
- The numbers are already out of date, so using the YouTube videos as references wouldn't match the numbers in the article. The numbers in the article don't match the number of views that the videos have now gotten. I don't think you want to have to keep updating the article, so using YouTube links for that isn't a good idea. Instead, maybe there is some other source you could use that states what the view counts were at a certain time.

- @Haoreima: Yes. It's a bit more complicated in visual editor in my opinion, you have to go into settings and then remove the redirect there. It's way easier just removing the redirect in source. --Ferien (talk) 15:49, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
