Hi Mavenly, I'm Griff, one of the editors here on Wikipedia. I have noticed that you have been adding many {{uncat}} templates to articles. While I appreciate you identifying those articles for us, there are only a few editors here on the project, focused on many tasks. If you could help us by categorising the articles when you find one without a category (Guide to categorising), instead of tagging it, it would be truly appreciated. I'll try when I can, but sometimes I'm not good at that, so I'd rather not put the wrong category. Mavenly (talk) 23:43, 7 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! If you have any questions, feel free to ask myself on my talk page, or any other editor on our community page. Griff (talk) 23:47, 7 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Okay. One thing I'm not sure about is which categories to put historical people in. Should they be in categories for the modern countries (like South African people, Pakistani people) or using ethnic groups (like Punjabi, Zulu, Arab) or using states that existed at the time (like Safavid, Maratha)? Mavenly (talk) 23:50, 7 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
We have a People from Location category for people who lived in states that no longer exist. Not every location may have its own category, in which case you may need to create a category (following the guideline linked above) or use a larger or newer category Griff (talk) 23:59, 7 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
So does that mean it's just better to use the states that no longer exist, instead of the current state? Mavenly (talk) 00:00, 8 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yes, use the historical location (the state that no longer exists) for a person who lived during the time of that state. For example, Karl Denke was born in Prussia in 1870. Although that part of Prussia is now part of Poland, Karl is categorised in Category:People from Prussia. Griff (talk) 00:03, 8 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Alright, thank you. I might have to make a lot of new categories. Mavenly (talk) 00:05, 8 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
