Why did you remove the "Demographics" section from Coweta, Oklahoma?[1]--   ChristianMan16  21:11, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

OK, I was just checking.--   ChristianMan16  21:18, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Welcome!

I edited (as you saw) on the Brett Favre article that you had created. That article needed to be created, but we hadn't got around to it (there is so much left to create). I am personally welcoming you to the Simple English Wikipedia! I only started a couple of weeks ago, so I can almost relate to you. I will be watching you (WOW, you have done a lot in your first day here), and I will hope to work with you more in the future! Simple needs good editors to expand the growing Wiki we have here. Contact me anytime, I will respond quickly to anything you have to say. Oh and just a piece of advice: The Help button on the side there, is very useful. Again, welcome to the Simple English Wikipedia! AmericanEagle 00:00, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Articles

change

I see how many Football player articles you have made. That is so cool. I have been trying to get those things done, but please add some things to your articles. Such as:

 • stub
 •
 •
 • WHAT YEAR THEY WERE BORN GOES HERE

And search the big wikipedia for the article in english. Look at the bottom of the article, take what it says about other languages. Like this:

 • en:FOOTBALL PLAYER NAME

But you have been doing great! Cheers, AmericanEagle 04:08, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Everybody forgets sometimes, but here we use "Other websites" instead of the "External links" header that the English Wikipedia uses. Can you please remember to use Other websites in the articles that you create in the future instead of External links? Thanks for your help!Razorflame 14:03, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Been there, done that. I know, it stinks but we can only use things on Commons that are either in the public domain, or close to it. But I have found that commons is pretty big, with a lot of pic's. About the message right above, don't worry. We pretty much all have gotten that, myself included. ;~0 AmericanEagle 16:42, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi there CPacker. We do not allow messages like WikiProject Oklahoma to be placed onto article's talk pages at this time as your WikiProject is not an official WikiProject. I just wanted to say thanks for tireless work in creating all those stubs on your user page. Great work, and keep it up. ;) Maybe even try to get one up to WP:GA, or even WP:VGA. Anyway, congratulations! :) -- RyanCross (talk) 05:41, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
Your welcome. If you ever need help (like that article ;)) you can always ask me. I love helping others. :D -- RyanCross (talk) 05:49, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Murrah building

change

The reason why I removed "it was the target" because it seemed a bit wordy to say it was the target and then that it was destroyed. I thought it was simpler to say that "it was destroyed in the blast." Cassandra talk 07:37, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

I found a reference for the amounts of Hydrodgen and Helium in Jupiter's atmosphere. I couldn't find any two figure that agreed exactyl so I modified the article 'estimate that..' and found two references that were nearly the same. Can you support now? Cheers. Oklahoma and readability

change

Hi - I too speak English as my first language and have a couple of degrees too so readability is not an issue for me except in the reverse - I have no difficulty in reading English of some complexity and I am not very good at writing simple English! As the purpose of Simple English wikipedia is different to English wikipedia, I think it is very important that the articles can be read by the intended readers.

Some of the links at Wikipedia:Useful might help - I think particularly Wikipedia:How to write Simple English articles is very important. It is a guideline but very good articles should meet this guideline - in particular

First, think about your readers. Many readers of Simple English are people whose mother language is not English. Other readers may be young (they may be children who don't have much knowledge of English) or have learning difficulties. The language is simple, but the ideas don't have to be

To test for readability I use Microsoft Word to get the calculations for readability and also for spell checking and grammar checking. To improve readability scores think about making the sentences shorter, choosing shorter words and breaking up the paragraphs. A lot of good ideas for things to look for and changes to make can be found at Wikipedia:Examples of simpler English.

The article is interesting reading, once we have made it easy to read I will have no trouble in changing my vote again. I just thought it was contradictory to say support but... and the but is a very big but for this project.

Editors like User:Peterdownunder who says on his user page "I work with students with learning disabilities so I use the the simple Wikipedia everyday at work." could be very useful reviewers.

Regards --Matilda (talk) 05:16, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi - I have read through the article and I think it is very good. I can't see any changes that I would make to improve readability. It can be a very fine line between being too simple, sot of baby talk, and getting too complex. I think you have managed that very well. I'll get a couple of my students to read the page for me. As a "foreigner", I would like to see some more minor detail on a few things without having to click on a link. (the only things I knew about Oklahoma before reading the page was "the golden wheat", the "wind that comes sweeping down the plains", and the bombing). For example you have a paragraph on Route 66, I would like a brief mention of where it goes without having to leave the page. If I want more detail I can take the link. The mention of the Dust Bowl is another example. Perhaps a mention of the "Okies"(?)- the people who left for California - if I remember my John Steinbeck books properly. While I'm making suggestions, I was interested in the Clovis spearheads, here's a spot for another page about the indigenous history. Also government - you mention the Oklahoma Senate and House of Representatives in the section on state symbols - (you could link to senate and house of reps pages) - a paragraph on government in Oklahoma would be valuable. Congratulations on the work you have put in, I certainly know a lot more about Oklahoma than I did yesterday. Peterdownunder (talk) 01:59, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

 • Hi - I think some very good changes have been made to the article to improve its readability and I have now changed my !vote to support for VGA :-) Regards --Matilda (talk) 20:59, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Oklahoma!

change

I don't mind you moving the bit about the musical, but as a foreigner I would expect to find a mention of the musical in the article - it is one of the few things I have heard about in relation to the state ;-) --Matilda (talk) 01:05, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Nice job!

change

Hey there. I just stopped by to say great job with the Oklahoma article! I remember how the article looked before it became a WP:GA, and it has greatly improved since then. I'm probably going to support, but I'll wait a bit longer. :-) By the way, could you participate here? Thanks! -- RyanCross (talk) 03:26, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Yep, I was about to go there in a few minutes anyway. I just had to watch then clean-up the vandalism going on (you can see yourself at Special:RecentChanges). Now that he is blocked, I'll be happy to participate. :) Thanks! -- RyanCross (talk) 06:17, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I'll change my vote to support now. Good job! Minor or Prime 07:55, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Just passed it as a VGA. It'll appear on the Main Page in a few months. Well done! Giggy (talk) 05:21, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi, could you take a look at this, please. There are still some issues that ideally would be fixed up. I'm happy to help, and you're welcome to continue discussion on my talk page. Giggy (talk) 08:52, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Category:States of the United States

change

The category States of the United States which you created has been quick deleted as a duplicate category and all additions of it to articles have been reverted/undone. The category was an exact copy of its own parent category (Category:U.S. states including an exact match of interwiki links. -- Creol(talk) 00:06, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Categories

change

Hello. I noticed you were creating some articles. Good job with them! But just don't forget to add appropriate categories to the article. If your not sure what categories to add to an article, add uncat at the bottom of the article, preferably above the interwikis (if any). Thanks! -- RyanCross (talk) 07:16, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Hey, you've got the idea now! You're adding more categories to articles. Keep up the good work! :) -- RyanCross (talk) 05:39, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Category:Caucasian-American actors

change

I think this is a really bad idea; en doesn't have one, and it's probably because there's no such thing as Caucasian. It's a slang term. Whites are not white, but have specific nationalities, such as one of the many European blocks or whatever. Harrison Ford, for instance, is classified on en as a Jew and of "German" and "Russian" descent. Those are more precise and accurate than using the term Caucasian. cassandra (talk) 06:29, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Caucasian is a real term and usually see as better than just saying white. There is a category for African American actors, why not Caucasian American actors; I figured making a category called white American actors wouldn’t be politically correct. African Americans descended from all different nations in Africa but they are all put into one category, African American. If we are going to categorize black Americans we need to categorize white Americans. I disagree in using terms such as "German American" if the person was born in America; because they are Americans not Germans. You would only use the "German American" term if they were born German and became American.--CPacker (talk) 06:56, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Er, did I say German American? I didn't. The exact category is "Americans of German descent", which is accurate. I'm been saerching en to no avail; there doesn't seem to have been a dicussion on the categories. The best I could find was an AFD, which was deleted on the basis that the ethnic lists handled the job a lot better than this list.
also, I have a policy to keep dicussion on one page. cassandra (talk) 08:34, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Im cool with getting rid of the Caucasian-American actors cat if we also get rid of the African-American cat. I think both should be changed to Category:American actors, if they are American. Also if we know that the person is of African descent we should add Category:Americans of African decent or German decent, English decent and so forth, insted of just saying African-American, German-Amerian, English-American. So are you fine with removing both Caucasina and African categories, as the did with the list pages on en, and adding American? Let me know how you feel about it.--CPacker (talk) 20:10, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
sorry for not responding...I think we should forward this to WP:ST and see what others think, because for some reason, I still just don't feel that Caucasian is an accurate term we should be using. cassandra (talk) 19:34, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

I don't want to use the term Caucasian if we can use a more accurate category; Like I said above. I feel that several of the categories should be overhauled and changed.--CPacker (talk) 19:38, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

I'll get member okay, just wait i'll do that tomorrow okay. Just please wait. I'm starting the project now. Thanks for the message. --Fell on Black Days (talk) 19:21, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

I'll do that but i'm wondering why? --Fell on Black Days (talk) 19:46, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

i'll fix that. --Fell on Black Days (talk) 20:08, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Hello. Great job with the category cleanup so far! Just one thing you might want to do is instead of tagging them as QD A2, it would be better and more helpful to us administrators if you tagged them as QD C1: Empty category. Yours, – RyanCross (talk) 00:41, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

I've approved use of AWB on Simple for your account. alexandra (talk) 07:10, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for doing that for me, did you aprove my CPacker account or my Boxbot?--CPacker (talk) 07:13, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
The CPacker one. alexandra (talk) 07:47, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
Is there anyway to do it on the Boxbot account? I wanted to just use awb on it, is it possible?--CPacker (talk) 07:49, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
You can do it on the Boxbot account. However, it will be granted AWB access as a normal user only. You need to get it approved and flagged before AWB bot access is granted (the bot tab is enabled).
By the way, please mark your changes as minor. You are flooding recent changes. Chenzw  Talk  08:11, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
