Hello. If you want to change the name of an existing category, like you did at Category:Prince of Persia games, please move the original category, do not start a new one from scratch. Emptying categories

Hello, QF66. You may have noticed that I declined three of your recent QD requests. To QD a category for being empty, the category needs to be empty for 4 days. If the categories are still empty in 4 days, you can ask for QD again.

One other note: when you are emptying a category, please consider moving its contents to a parent category instead of just removing the category. For example, the contents of the Zoo Tycoon category (I loved that game!) could have been moved to the simulator game category.

Since the article didn't have notes or references before that, it needed to have note and reference sections added. I added them to this article, but please keep that in mind when adding infoboxes. Moving categories

Hi, QF. I noticed these categories that you moved:

• Category:Mortal Kombat series to Category:Mortal Kombat
• Category:Fiction genres to Category:Genres of fiction

I noticed that you didn't move the contents of some more categories that you moved/renamed. When you don't move the contents, the new category shows up as empty, and the old one shows up under redirect categories with content. Why?

Hello, could you please explain why you're removing subcategories in Category:Categories named after movie series? Did you ask anybody if you could do so? Most of the subcategories you're taking out of the category have the word movie series in them, so I don't see an appropriate reason to suddenly start depopulating the category. Hi Quantum, I'm Griff, one of the other editors here on Wikipedia. I was reviewing the recent edits you made to the elephant categories and honestly, I am confused. It appears you created the Elephants and Humans category a couple of weeks ago, which seems to be a good category to create, as the English Wikipedia uses it as well. How are so confused? I merged the content of this category with Category:Proboscideans - a more border topic due to being the order that elephants belong to. I also merged the content of a similar category "Extinct elephants" which was then deleted. Seriously, mastodons were not elephants! QuantumFoam66 (talk) 22:04, 4 January 2025 (UTC)

That makes sense! Here on Wikipedia, our categorisation guideline states that it is usually best to put a page in the categories which are most specific to it, rather than in all the categories which might be related. For example, an appropriate category tree might look like this:

• Proboscideans
  • Elephants
    • Elephants and humans
      • Elephants at Griff's house
      • Quantum's elephant circus
      • Elephant Wikipedians

Each of the names in italics are articles. In the future, it'll be best to keep categories populated unless the category is inappropriate. As well, if you identify a group of articles that could fit in a new appropriate category, feel free to create it. There are always ways to improve articles! Categorisation - Horror video games

I thought these categories were bad because we have nothing else in the scope of categories that also has something combining a decade of original release and genre together like that. However I take everything I requested back and would rather have these categories not deleted and instead for me to manually add all the original pages back into these categories - and not have other users revert the edits that I did related to them. In general, we use the English Wikipedia's categorisation tree, with some exceptions. If you are making a mass change to categories, and it is not following enWP's categorisation tree or existing guidelines, you should discuss it with the community first. I have declined your G7 request for Category:Mass Media in Oceania and placed the articles that were removed from the category back in the category. That is correct, this project does not have every category English Wikipedia has. However, we follow English Wikipedia unless our project guidelines indicate otherwise. If the category has been created and meets our categorisation guideline, then it would not be deleted. In this case, you are not following our guidelines.
